Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Bill Sali has been named a "Friend of the American Motorist" by Americans for Prosperity (AFP). Sali has also accepted the Thomas Jefferson Award from the International Foodservice Distributors Association.

AFP's "Freedom from Foreign Oil" scorecard ranks Members of Congress based on their votes for policies that would lower gas and energy prices by increasing American energy supplies. Sali achieved a perfect 100% score on the group's scorecard.

"By voting against tax hikes on U.S. energy and supporting expanded energy production here in America, Rep. Sali chose to represent the interest of American motorists," said AFP President Tim Phillips. "Our scorecard shows that Rep. Sali has a solid and consistent track record of supporting legislation that will decrease our costly and dangerous dependence on foreign oil."

"I am so pleased to accept this award today on behalf of the people of Idaho's First Congressional District. As Idahoans continue to pay high prices at the pump, our efforts should be focused on solutions to this nightmare which includes increasing American energy production. Unfortunately, Democrat leadership chose to take a five week vacation while Idahoans continued to pay outrageous gas prices." said Sali.

Sali is the author of the Family Energy Relief Act which provides a tax credit to Americans to help offset the impact of high gas prices. In addition, Sali and members of the Western Caucus introduced the Americans for American Energy Act which would open ANWR and the OCS to increase production of American crude oil and give the right incentives to boost conservation, improved efficiency and bring alternative energy online sooner.

The International Foodservice Distributors Association bestowed Sali with the Thomas Jefferson Award which commends Sali's voting record on issues such as taxes, free trade, labor policy, and other economic matters.

"My commitment to reducing taxes will not waver. I will proudly display this award as recognition of my commitment to the economic well-being of our country by way of lower taxes," concluded Sali.
